Dogs
Updated: Apr 15, 2022

We know our neighbors by the dogs they walk.
The words they speak elevate formal tone.
If those who walk do indeed like to talk,
we let them run away with words alone.
We interpret the mind by fur on skin,
And black sniffing noses without review.
Livery adorned to leashes is akin
to an open novel for all to view.
Yet, we relinquish those tedious thoughts—
the ones that can destroy the attitude—
for lighthearted gestures to decipher, not
frowning faces eroding gratitude.
We know our neighbors by the dogs they walk.
If they are afraid to speak, let them talk.
